SPIC MACAY

The goal of this movement is to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich cultural tapestry of India among the youth, through focus on the classical arts with its rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an appreciation of their deeper values. Solid, value based education, which involves the absorption of aesthetics and spirituality in an increasingly technical, mundane competitive world. The movement is educational in spirit and character and locates itself in educational institutions only.

SPIC MACAY conducts its programs by raising funds through the central and state governments, public and private sectors, corporations, charitable trusts and individual donations. Lecture demonstrations are held all over the country in the first half of the academic year. These are informal and interactive, involving a free exchange between the artiste and the students, and help to create and fine-tune a future audience. The Baithak, an informal chamber performance, is geared to create the traditional upasak-rasik relationship. The festival concert series, held in latter half of the academic year, are formal presentations of classical music and dance.

The International Institute of Information Technology is a part of the SPIC MACAY movement which aims at creating an awareness of Indian culture and music. The quest for Indian music was started in the institute with the formation of the Sangeet Sabha. This was an internal group of students and faculty members having a passion for Indian Classical Music. Meetings and performances which brought out the talents present in us were held. The aim is to have frequent activities in the institute and invite renowned artistes to give performances. The formation of this sub chapter is a milestone in the evolution of the institute.
