INFRASTRUCTURE
The Institute is fully residential and is situated on a
clean and green campus of sixty-two acres. The
academic buildings house the research centres,
corporate schools, library, lecture halls, tutorial rooms,
computer and electronics laboratories and offices of
the faculty and administration. B.Tech. first year
students are provided sharing accommodation in the hostel. All other students are provided with individual rooms. The hostels have wireless Internet access. In addition there are 50 executive rooms and an air conditioned guest house.
The institute has a wireless campus. Starting from the
12th July, 2004, IIIT wireless network is operational.
The wireless network has been provisioned with the
latest wireless lan technology 802.11g to offer users
with high speed connectivity.
Expansion of the infrastructure facilities is being car-
ried out. A new academic complex with large lecture
halls, research centers, laboratories, hostels, married
housing will be ready in the first phase.
Labs:
The Institute has well-equipped, air-conditioned computer
laboratories allocated batch-wise to students. They are
equipped with the latest hardware and software. The
average PC-to-student ratio is 1:2. All terminals are part
of an intranet (1Gbps Backbone), which connects all
buildings, including the hostels. The Institute has high
bandwidth (5 Mbps) internet connectivity round the clock.
Researchers have 24 hours access to the computational
facilities. The students administer their own computer
systems. Research centres and corporate schools provide
specialised high-end equipment for research and
development.
In addition to the computer labs, there are digital signal
processing and electronics laboratories. Most classrooms
are equipped with overhead and multimedia projectors.
Seminar halls facilitate organization of symposia,
seminars, student-industry interactions and guest lectures.
Library:
The Library supports the main objective of the institute
in imparting an interdisciplinary IT education of the
highest academic quality by providing reference
materials for highly diverse set of IT courses at graduate
and postgraduate levels, and research programs.
The Library is housed in a separate two-floor building.
The building is centrally air-conditioned with a seating
capacity of about 300 students. For research students,
about 80 separate cubicles are provided. A reading
room facility is provided where members can read their
own reading material.
The Library has a large collection of Reference Books,
Text Books, Technical reports, Standards, Literature
books and CDROMS. The library subscribes to over
1 5 0 journals/magazines. The Library is being
managed with a fully integrated multi user Library
Management Software. Using this software,
cataloguing and circulation services are being
automated along with OPAC (Online Public Access
Catalogue) facility.
The Library is a member of INDEST Consortium and
facilitates online access to research material from
IEEE , ACM, Springer Link and ASCE. To improve
communication skills in English, five sets of
Linguaphone English Course material (text and audio)
are available.
Digital Library:
A digital library is also maintained. It is an online
archive of useful software, books and tutorials.
Students can download any permitted software from
this resource. There are many textbooks and reference
books available in the digital format as well. Many
lectures have also been recorded and are available
online for students use. Most courses maintain an
intranet site containing lecture slides and other course
material.
Hostels:
The institute has four boys hostels having a total of 224 rooms with double/Triple occupancy and 624 rooms with single occupancy, and one girls hostel with 216 single occupancy rooms. The ladies hostel has attached bath rooms in each of the rooms.There is an optical fibre network connecting all buildings on campus including the hostels. The institute is now moving towards wireless campus.
Sports:
The institute gives sufficient incentive for everyone to excel in any of the plethora of activities and skills available. Facilities are provided for cricket, volley ball, soccer, basket ball, table tennis, and various other games. A gymnasium has been recently set up within the hostel premises.
Dining Facilities:
Spacious and modern kitchens with steam cooking cater to healthy and nutritious food. Strict hygienic conditions are maintained. Each hostel has its own mess. The student is liberal to choose any mess of his choice. There is also a canteen which functions for 12 hrs. a day.
Gymnasium:
A state of art gymnasium has been established to aid the physical fitness maintenance of the students. The gymnsium is equipped with all modern equipment and is open for both boys and girls at separate times during mornings and evenings.
