Lab for Spatial Informatics

International Institute of Information Technology

Lab for Spatial Informatics is a recently created Research Centre at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.

The centre is working towards enhancing the understanding of the concepts in geomatics and geospatial technologies, which are then be applied over different application areas. It will try to build research capacities not only in the core disciplinary interests of GIS and remote sensing, but also work in the area of spatial modelling, build tools for decision makers and develop methodologies for integrated assessment and modelling for long term scientific inputs to decision making. It is working towards becoming a nodal point for the integration of the strengths and progress in the IT fields related to the spatio-temporal domains and build domain expertise and applications in the various disciplines related to it, ranging from the natural to social sciences, with a focus on inter-disciplinary areas (related to resource use and management), by building on the data generation, handling and monitoring capability to analysis and modelling. In brief, Lab for Spatial Informatics is becoming one of the core centers of research and development in this field  for dealing with (i) GIS, (Geo-)Spatial Informatics education and research; (ii) development of GIS applications (including modelling) in core areas of forestry, agriculture, transportation and urban & regional planning; and (iii) training courses (to mid-level administrators) for better use of these technologies
