Monitoring of Distribution Transformer (DT) using cellular communication technology

Distribution Transformers (DTs) are very important components that are located on the feeders below the substation. It is very important to monitor these transformers on a regular basis. Currently, there is no monitoring done at these locations in most cases. Whenever there is a problem at these transformers, it is brought to the notice of the authorities by the customers. Also there is no monitoring of the loading conditions of these transformers. Though a need was felt to monitor these transformers on a real-time basis, due to lack of viable communication media, this was not taken up on a full scale. In the last one to two years there is a lot of increase in the usage of cellular technology by people. This system develop in this project provides the facility to measure the values of transformer and monitor them at remotely located monitoring station. A Graphical user interface has been provided through which administrator can see the graph of all the parameters. Threshold has been defined to control each parameter at distribution transformer, so when any of the parameter value exceeds threshold it generates an alarm. This provides real time monitoring and immediately recovery action can be taken which will avoid power interruption.
