Details:

Distribution Transformers (DTs) are very important components that are located on the feeders below the substation. It is very important to monitor these transformers on a regular basis. Currently, there is no monitoring done at these locations. Whenever there is a problem at these transformers, it is brought to the notice of the authorities by the customers. Also there is no monitoring of the loading conditions of these transformers. Though a need was felt to monitor these transformers on a real-time basis, due to lack of viable communication media, this was not taken up on a full scale.

In the last one to two years there is a lot of increase in the usage of cellular technology by people. There are several service providers that provide mobile services.

The objective of this project is to investigate the use this technology for real-time monitoring of DTs. All the DTs on a particular 11 Kv feeder on a particular substation will be chosen under this projects and system integration issues relating to the use of cellular technology for monitoring the DTs will be studied. The system required to monitor the DTs will be designed and developed under this project. The proposed system will be testing for a period of 6 months in the field.
